Cryptocurrencies have continued to skyrocket in popularity in the past year, as the industry has been getting more and more mainstream attention. Everybody wants a piece of the action - even sports stars. NFL quarterback and 7-time Super Bowl Winner Tom Brady and supermodel wife, Gisele Bundchen have each taken an undisclosed equity stake in FTX, becoming part-owners of one of the top exchanges in the United States and the world.
Tom Brady on the FTX partnership:
"It's an incredibly exciting time in the crypto-world ad Sam [Bankman-Fried, CEO of FTX] and the revolutionary FTX team continue to open my eyes to the endless possibilities. This particular opportunity showed us the importance of educating people about the power of crypto while simultaneously giving back to our communities and planet. We have the chance to create something really special here, and I can't wait to see what we're able to do together."
The couple will be receiving cryptocurrency as part of the deal, and Tom Brady will officially be known as a 'exchange ambassador' to FTX and Bundchen will be signing on as the Environmental & Social Initiatives adviser. FTX subsidiary Blockfolio is also involved in the partnership deal.
"They have already opened their Blockfolio accounts to invest and trade the cryptocurrencies of their choice" FTX said in a statement.
Tom Brady took to instagram with short clip to announce the partnership in style:
The big move is just one of the latest crypto-sports ventures for FTX. Just last week, FTX entered a sponsorship deal with the MLB, that includes FTX branding on all MLB umpire uniforms starting next month. FTX also have partnerships with Miami Heat, a billion dollar deal that includes the naming rights to their stadium.
Additionally, they have also enlisted NFL #1 Pick Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars in a partnership deal with Blockfolio.
